Overview
This 2-day safari from Dar es Salaam offers the perfect short escape into the wilderness of Mikumi National Park, one of Tanzania’s most accessible safari destinations. Known as the “mini-Serengeti,” Mikumi is home to a wide variety of wildlife including elephants, giraffes, lions, buffalo, wildebeest, zebras, and over 400 bird species. Ideal for travelers with limited time, this safari combines scenic drives with unforgettable game viewing before returning to Dar es Salaam.
Day 1: Transfer to Mikumi National Park
Early in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in Dar es Salaam and begin your drive to Mikumi National Park, a journey of about 4–5 hours through scenic landscapes and local villages. You will arrive at Mikumi in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive. Explore the Mkata floodplain, often compared to the Serengeti for its open grasslands that attract elephants, zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, buffalo, and predators such as lions. In the evening, return to your lodge/camp inside or near the park for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Morning Game Drive & Transfer to Dar es Salaam
After breakfast, head out for an early morning game drive when wildlife is most active. Watch out for predators returning from the night hunt and herbivores grazing in the open plains. Later, return to the lodge for lunch and check out. In the afternoon, you will drive back to Dar es Salaam, arriving in the evening, where you will be dropped off at your hotel or ferry terminal, marking the end of your safari.
