Overview
Embark on an unforgettable 5-day adventure through two of Tanzania’s most iconic wildlife destinations, Mikumi and Nyerere National Parks. This safari offers an exciting combination of game drives across vast savannahs, boat safaris along the Rufiji River, and the chance to witness Africa's diverse wildlife in their natural habitat. From the open plains of Mikumi teeming with elephants, lions, and giraffes, to the wild and untamed beauty of Nyerere (formerly Selous).
Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park & Afternoon Game Drive
Your safari adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Dar es Salaam, followed by a scenic drive to Mikumi National Park, passing through charming villages and beautiful landscapes. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch and then head out for an afternoon game drive across the open plains, where you may encounter elephants, lions, zebras, wildebeests, and more. As the sun sets over the horizon, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive in Mikumi
Wake up to the sounds of the wild and spend the full day exploring Mikumi’s diverse ecosystems on game drives. From the floodplains that resemble the Serengeti to the miombo woodlands, today offers ample opportunities to spot a variety of animals and birds. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park or return to the lodge for a hot meal before continuing your afternoon drive. In the evening, relax at your lodge and share stories under the starlit African sky.
Day 3: Mikumi to Nyerere National Park (Selous) & Sunset Boat Safari
After breakfast, begin your drive towards Nyerere National Park, one of Africa’s largest and most untouched wildlife sanctuaries. The journey offers glimpses of rural Tanzanian life and ever-changing landscapes.
Upon arrival at your camp or lodge near the Rufiji River, enjoy a hot lunch and some relaxation before heading out for a tranquil sunset boat safari, where you can spot crocodiles, hippos, and a rich variety of birdlife as the sun paints the river golden. Return for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Full-Day Safari in Nyerere National Park
Today is dedicated to a full-day game drive through the vast and wild terrain of Nyerere. With luck, you might spot elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, and even endangered African wild dogs. The park's remote and untamed nature ensures a more private, off-the-beaten-path safari experience. Break for a picnic lunch in the bush, then continue your game viewing into the afternoon before returning to camp for dinner and relaxation.
Day 5: Bush Walk Safari, Maasai Visit and Departure
You will wake up early for tea or coffee. Then, you'll depart for a guided bush walk with a bushman. This is an exciting chance to get close to nature and the best way to learn the details of the African bush. Walking along the firmed trail through the African bushes on foot brings about a new way of appreciating the natural environment.
Later you will return to the lodge for a full breakfast. Then you will depart the lodge for a Maasai visit in the boma where you will get to learn about their culture and way of life which is something good. After Maasai, you will start your drive back to Dar es Salaam where our driver will drop you off anywhere in Dar es Salaam.
